The rhythmic click-clack of the train lulled Maya into a pleasant state. She leaned her head against the cool glass of the window, watching the landscape blur past. The gallery owner had loved her latest paintings, the deal finalized and paperwork signed. She'd been in a whirlwind of activity, but now it was over, and the peace felt incredible.

Her phone vibrated in her bag, and she pulled it out, annoyed at the interruption. A friend had sent a picture, a close-up shot of someone's back. And there, starkly rendered in black ink, was her work. Her stomach clenched a little, but the feeling quickly turned into a curious wonder.
